The Brief
Tarbert Comprehensive School is located in North County Kerry. The post-primary school was established in 1973 as a merger of the three existing schools in the area. There is a continuous school enrolment of over 600 pupils. The school is co-educational, catering for all ranges of ability, embracing all social groupings, offering the widest possible curriculum and open to all religious denominations.
The School needed to revamp their website, mainly to improve navigation, make it more reflective of the school and also to make the site more of an information hub than a brochure website. Also required was a page builder that would allow the School to easily manage content on the site as the standard WordPress software is often not user-friendly.
Tarbert Comprehensive School approached us to design and develop a revamped website.
Our Approach
We recommended a re-design of the website, with a custom responsive design to convey the value that Tarbert Comprehensive School adds to its members.
The re-vamped website would be designed to:
> Have 2 horizontal menus at the top of each page, with menu items and sub-items as requested
> Have a Slider, Latest News RSS feed (App script), Calendar (App script) & introduction text on the homepage
> Have links to school app on both Android and iOS stores and a link to the promo video on homepage
> Control publishing abilities for some users, while allowing them to edit and save as draft
> Improve the layout & look of the video and image galleries
> Make the Page/Post editing sections easier to manage by adding a page builder
The site software was out of date so this was updated as a matter of priority and security software was added and configured.
Other work (included with all site upgrades) involved
>> Google Analytics integration
>> Page Speed optimisation
>> Video User Manuals and a pdf user manual
>> Site responsive to the device accessing it
Much effort was put into allowing the school to easily update the website as this was cited as one of the main problems with their existing site. The staff did not find it user-friendly. We integrated a premium page builder plugin, software to enable management of image & video galleries and page builder templates.
The Result
The project was completed in good time and the client was happy with the new dashboard and the ease at which they can now make changes to the site.
A dropbox account and automated backups were set up to protect the client when updating the site in the future.
Since the site is being used as an information hub, new information is being added regularly. The client was advised to clear out old media files periodically to avoid the site becoming too large.
The Feedback
Over the years our school has worked with Tom as our Graphic Designer & Branding Consultant. When it came to a much needed overhaul of our schools website Tom introduced us to Noelle and the services that Insignis Web offered and from that point we didn’t look back.
The unique needs of our school were taken into consideration and we were guided through a comprehensive project proposal that outlined a snapshot of our organisation, our needs, the needs of our learning community/target audience and a proposed solution with clear costings and accurate project timeline.
Throughout the process Tom and Noelle were always available and their client orientated approach meant that our vision was translated into a reality. Our schools digital presence is now well and truly established through the modern, dynamic and interactive website that Tom and Noelle have developed for us.
They are talented, committed and excellent value, and we would highly recommend their services.
